Change 2 - Add 3 - Pick 1
A Simple Approach to Better Health

With more than a month of the new year behind us, many who made heartfelt resolutions to eat better and exercise are facing disappointment and frustration.  Perhaps the proposed fitness schedule conflicted with an already busy schedule.  Changing eating habits may have proven to be more challenging than promised by the diet book or infomercial.  While there are many reasons we struggle with acquiring and maintaining good habits, oftentimes the goals we set are too ambitious.  We are overwhelmed with what it takes to change existing habits and find it easy to remain or slide back into a sedentary way of life characterized by poor nutritional choices.

If this rings true for you, don’t give up!  It is not too late to renew your desire for a healthier you and take action toward that goal right now.  Making simple changes in your daily habits can result in significant improvements.  It is important to remember that new habits take time to establish and that your choices must be viewed as lifestyle changes instead of short-term quick fixes.

Change 2 Eating Habits

From the following list, pick two new habits to adopt.  It is better to start with two that are fairly easy for you in order to experience success.  After two weeks, Change 2 additional habits.  Do not let go of those first choices as the new habits are adopted!

Add 3 Choices for Physical Activity & Exercise

Begin to have an on-going “move mentality.”  For an improvement in general health, engage in physical activity for 30 minutes each day.  This can be done all at once or in 10-minute segments.  Physical activity does not necessarily mean structured exercise but is defined as bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles that results in energy output.  Exercise is a form of physical activity that is more structured and goal oriented.  At this point, it is not so important what you call it but that you do it!  Check out the following ideas and Add 3 this week.

walk 30 minutes/day

park away & walk

take a fitness class

cycling (indoors or outdoors)

3 cardio workouts/week

move to music

fitness consultation

stretch 3-5 times/week

use stairs – no elevator

walk after dinner

play in Metro Parks

check out fitness/recreation center

weight training 2 times/week

try a new activity

power walk the mall

move more!

Pick 1 Whole Foods Nutritional Supplement

Research supports the fact that most of us do not get all of the nutrition we need from our foods, especially with fruits and vegetables.  The produce we do eat is often over-processed, over-cooked and may be picked too soon to contain the nutrients necessary for our health.

While there is no substitute for eating a variety of raw, fresh fruits and vegetables, there are whole food based supplements available that can help provide the nutrients our bodies need for optional functioning and repair.  The whole foods supplement can provide naturally occurring vitamins and minerals along with phytonutrients, antioxidants and other nutrients found in the raw produce.

When choosing a whole foods supplement, be sure to Pick 1 with solid research, such as JuicePlus+ and MonaVie, to support its claims.  Remember that quality comes with a cost.  Invest in your health since it is the most important asset you have!
